John Deere Offers New Displays & Receivers for Precision Ag as Aftermarket Options

As a Precision Ag farmer, I am excited to hear that John Deere has announced new aftermarket options for farmers seeking to upgrade their equipment or replace outdated components with newer technology. These offerings include the G5 Universal displays, JDLink M modem, and StarFire 7000 Universal GNSS receiver. These components make it easy for farmers like myself to take advantage of current and upcoming technology.

Compared to previous displays, the John Deere G5 Universal displays offer a 35% larger viewing area, three times faster processing speed, and a high-definition screen. The G5 comes in two configurations, including the G5 with a 10.1-inch display and G5 Plus with a 12.8-inch display. The G5 Plus offers AutoTrac, Documentation, and now Section Control in the base, which streamlines the purchase experience. Additionally, farmers can upgrade to the John Deere G5 Advanced package to access automation features such as AutoTrac Turn Automation, AutoPath, Machine Sync, and in-field data sharing. The G5 Advanced package offers a lower up-front cost and allows farmers to pay only for what their farm needs.

Christopher Murray, John Deere’s Marketing Manager, stated that farmers would enjoy the updated functionality and enhanced user experience the new displays provide. He added that the G5 Universal display offers more usable area on the run pages, making it easier for farmers to control their equipment and take advantage of future technologies such as autonomy.

John Deere introduced the StarFire 7000 receiver last year, providing five years of repeatability, 73% faster pull-in times, and 17% more accuracy when using SF-RTK compared to previous models. In addition, signal stability and reliability have improved, allowing for the highest level of guidance and accuracy John Deere has ever offered. As an aftermarket option, farmers can upgrade their equipment by adding the John Deere StarFire 7000 Universal receiver to improve functionality or replace outdated GPS / GNSS receivers for better accuracy and repeatability.

The JDLink M modem is another offering that John Deere will make available as an aftermarket option. This device can be installed in as little as 15 minutes on John Deere and other brands of equipment and vehicles, making it possible to easily document machine and work data and transfer the data from those machines.

According to Ryan Stien, John Deere’s Marketing Manager, the JDLink M modem was designed with legacy equipment, mixed fleets, and support vehicles in mind. He added that their goal is to ensure every customer can benefit from the value connectivity provides, helping their dealer receive alerts on equipment, sharing agronomic data, or monitoring logistics.

These new precision ag components provide farmers with a pathway to the future of precision ag, allowing them to streamline their processes and increase productivity. I look forward to exploring these new aftermarket options further and seeing how they can help our farm improve its operations.
